Can You Use Castor Oil and Magnesium Oil Together?

Nov 07, 2026Ellena Spence

Castor oil and magnesium oil are two of the most popular natural products in self-care routines right now, and they're often seen side by side. So can you use them together?

Yes. The trick is to layer them, not mix them. Here's why, and how.

Two very different products

Magnesium Oil Spray Organic Castor Oil
Ingredients Magnesium chloride hexahydrate + distilled water 100% Ricinus communis (castor) seed oil
Texture Light, water-based, silky Thick, rich, slow-absorbing
Role in your routine Quick-absorbing mineral spray Nourishing oil that locks in moisture
Origin Dead Sea, Israel Cold-pressed in India, hexane-free

Magnesium oil is water-based and castor oil is a true oil. Shaken together in one bottle, they separate, and the castor oil can stop the spray from absorbing well.

Why you shouldn't mix them in one bottle

  • They won't stay blended, because oil and water separate.
  • Thick castor oil will clog a spray nozzle.
  • Putting a heavy oil down first creates a barrier, so the magnesium spray sits on top of the skin.

The right order: magnesium first, castor oil second

  1. Spray Dead Sea Magnesium Oil onto clean skin. Try the soles of your feet, calves, shoulders or stomach.
  2. Massage it in and let it absorb for 5–10 minutes.
  3. Seal with a few drops of Organic Castor Oil, massaged in gently. Castor oil is thick, so a little goes a long way.

This also helps if magnesium spray sometimes leaves your skin feeling tingly or dry. The castor oil adds a rich, comforting layer on top.

Three ways to use them together

1. The bedtime foot ritual

Spray Magnesium Oil onto the soles of your feet, wait a few minutes, then massage in castor oil and pull on cotton socks. It's an easy way to slow down before sleep, and the socks protect your sheets.

2. The belly ritual

Spray Magnesium Oil across your stomach and let it absorb. Then smooth on a thin layer of Organic Castor Oil and cover with a soft cotton cloth to keep it in place and off your clothes. Relax for 30–60 minutes.

3. The post-workout wind-down

After a shower, spray Magnesium Oil onto calves and shoulders, then massage in castor oil for a slow, soothing self-massage.

Tips for best results

  • Patch test both products on a small area of skin before first use.
  • Use a little castor oil. A few drops is plenty for feet, and a thin layer for the stomach.
  • Avoid broken or freshly shaved skin with magnesium spray.
  • Be consistent. A short nightly routine is easier to keep than an occasional long one.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add castor oil to my magnesium spray bottle?

We don't recommend it. They separate and can block the nozzle. Layer them instead.

Can I use castor oil and magnesium every night?

Many people do. Listen to your skin and ease back if it feels dry or irritated.

Which castor oil should I use?

Choose a cold-pressed, hexane-free castor oil. Ours is organic, vegan, cruelty-free and a single ingredient, available from 100ml glass droppers up to 5L.

Can I use other oils instead?

Yes. Jojoba or fractionated coconut oil are lighter options from our wellness oil range if castor oil feels too heavy.
